Antique Russian Coins
From Rurikovich to Romanov, from Slavic Kingdom to a strong Empire
Being handled by so many people of this country with great and difficult history Russian coins hold special place in my heart. They are more then just antique coins, they are part of Russian Imperial History.
Russia became a powerful empire and since the rule of Ivan III (the Great) in 1462-1505 when religious leaders proclaimed Moscow "the third Rome", Russian Czars, Emperors and Empresses called Russian capital Moscow - The Third Rome. Double Headed Eagle under one crown represents unity and equal influence of the Russian Emperor and the Church in ruling the state. These coins are very hot on numismatic market at the moment and not easy to come by.
